Russian Language and Literacy

Our school offers Russian language lessons for children from 3 to 15 years of age with various levels of mastery.

We offer both group and individual classes, in person and online.

Small children can’t sit still for long. Activity and motion allow them to relax while dynamically absorbing grammar and vocabulary. We engagingly study the alphabet, letters, and syllables, develop fine motor skills (finger games), conduct puppet shows, small competitions, game show style quizzes based on Russian books and stories, and exercise our memory (memorizing poetry). From the first play lessons, we encourage students to speak: giving opinions, retelling stories, discussing topics, answering questions, etc. The repetition of correct phraseology during games and exercises imprints grammatically correct structures in the child’s memory.

Our native language classes use modern materials and include many interesting exercises. These are not lessons in the traditional sense, but an interactive exploration of the Russian language. Group lessons are also an opportunity for students to learn to work in teams.

As our students mature, the language models used in class become more complex and new grammatical structures are added to the student’s repertoire. With every class, the student’s lexicon expands, their speech becomes more varied, and their grammar improves.

At the end of every lesson, students receive a homework assignment (oral and written) to reenforce the principles covered in class.

It is important for us that the children learn to love the Russian Language so that they can carry this love throughout their lives, reading both classic and contemporary Russian literature and, of course, conversing freely and correctly.

Our school has many opportunities for upperclassmen and, indeed, those of any age to study Russian. Our systematic approach can help you overcome barriers in oral or written Russian, expand your vocabulary and read the masterpieces of Russian literature in the original.
