Welcome to the “Znayka” Russian School near Brookline, MA!

Znayka School was founded in 2003 with the goal of exposing children of various ages to the riches of Russian culture and literature. Primary for this goal is, of course, is the ability to read, write, speak and clearly express one’s thoughts in Russian. This is our primary focus. In the creative atmosphere of our lessons, each child begins to appreciate the beauty of Russian speech along with the sounds and colors of the world around them. The teaching process must be both captivating and educational, which is why classes are conducted with the latest methods of play and materials adapted to current educational standards. Our students are engaged and show excellent results.

Over the years, the school has grown and matured. Today, besides lessons in Russian language and math, we offer “ABC&123” school preparatory classes, chess, drawing, cooking, and the “Krokha” group for toddlers 1.5-2.5 years old.

In 2011, the “Petrushka” theater group was added. The goal of this club is the reading, discussion and staging of popular works of children’s literature from Russia and the world.

Our students go beyond the school program, outpace their contemporaries, and build a solid base for future success in the sciences and promising professions.

The school year includes preparation for a concert for parents, where the audience is treated to a show with songs and stories.

Many students come to us as toddlers of 2-3 years and continue to study and grow with us until they are 14-15 years old.

What’s important for me is to discover the potential in each child and develop his or her natural abilities.

Children can begin their studies at any age and with any level of knowledge.

Classes are held in small groups of 3-8 students. Groups are formed based on the childrens’ age and characteristics based on consultation with a teacher.

Classes are conducted in a cheerful, kind, and playful atmosphere.

Best Wishes.

Helping develop young minds

Russian Language

Our school has students from 3 to 15 years old and is open to anyone who wants to study Russian regardless of their existing knowledge level.

We offer multiple scheduling options for class duration, group vs. individual, and online vs. in person.

Our school has been teaching Russian for 20 years. Over this time, we have honed and tested our methods based on practical experience. We can effectively apply our developments towards the education of children of various ages, keeping in mind that our students live in a primarily English language environment. Our methods help make classes more lively and language study less boring. From the first play lessons, we encourage students to speak: giving opinions, retelling stories, discussing topics, and answering questions, as well as teaching them to read and write. Our graduates successfully master the Russian language and warmly recall their time at “Znayka” school. The best proof of this is the number of younger siblings who also come to study Russian with us.

We look forward to seeing you in our Russian language classes!

Mathematics

Children from 3 to 14 years old are invited to our math classes. Lessons with smaller children are conducted as games allowing them to understand and easily master the material: numbers, counting basics, arithmetic operations, simple geometric figures and concepts. As students move from one age level to the next, the material becomes more complex, adding in intriguing tasks, puzzles, and math crosswords. The one constant is the creative and friendly atmosphere of all of our classes.

Arts & Modeling

Drawing, Painting and Sculpting

For children 3 to 14 years of age

Many children draw, color and play with clay. They try to express both the real world and the world of their fantasies: heroes and magical creatures. Drawing on paper or sculpting with clay exercises a child’s memory, concentration and imagination. For this reason, drawing and sculpting are important for childhood development starting at a young age. Drawing lessons also help prepare their hands for writing. All children are talented! Let’s help them explore their individuality and instill in them a love for creativity.

ABC & 123

This is a school preparatory course for children 2.5 – 5 years old.

Each class is directed towards the development of the skills a child will need in school. Teaching is through educational games and various game activities focused on the development of specific skills. Students begin to read, write, count, and learn lots of interesting and useful things about natural phenomenon, animals, plants, and our planet.

We try to show our young students that learning is interesting!

It is also important, during the learning process, for young students working in a group to focus on the topic of conversation, to conduct themselves correctly in a classroom, and to maintain a friendly atmosphere.

Groups are made up of 3-8 students.

“Tiny Tots”

Znayka School invites children from 1.5-2.5 years old and parents to the “Tiny Tots” program. Classes run 9:45-10:30 on Saturdays, beginning in October.

At this age, kids are especially interested in the world around them. They want to examine, touch, and test the world. All of our classes are oriented on their exploration: music lessons, 5 minute dance breaks, learning songs, playing games, and finger exercises.

Chess

Chess – a game of intellect with a history of centuries.

For children 6 years and older

The systematic study of chess teaches discipline, patience, logic, analytic skills, and the ability to think several steps ahead towards a result. Chess is a game that develops memory and focus. Happily, it is a game that any age can learn. It’s never too early or too late to begin to master the wisdom of this enthralling game.
